Christmas and Holiday Gift Giving Guide

Clothing February 28th, 2008

Christmas Guide : The best way to have Christmas on a Budget is to have a Chineese Christmas. Everyone buys a gift .You can decide if you want general catagories for the Christmas presents or everyone buys the same items : such as , kitchen items, clothing , games, crafts etc. If you do this for kids everyone can buy toys and the children really enjoy this game too. It can be a limit of $10.00, $15.00, etc. Everyone wraps the present. You will put #’s in a hat, bowl, jar etc . Each person will draw a number. Then everyone will go in order starting with the person who drew a number one. That person will pick from all of the gifts and unwrap it. The person with number two will then choose their gift. They will also have the option to take the gift of the other person or a unwrapped gift. The person with number three then will choose between all unopened gifts or a wrapped gift. This game not only is easy on the pocket book, it is loads of fun. Sometimes a gift will go around 5 or 6 times and everyone will be wanting the same gift. Hope this guide helps you on the Holiday Season. ( This is also great for parties )

How to Measure for a Girl’s Dress

Clothing February 28th, 2008

1. Get a measuring tape.

2. Have the little angel stand with arms relaxed at her sides in undergarments or fitted clothing .

3. Measure SHOULDERS by placing the tape measure across her upper back from shoulder to shoulder.

4. Measure CHEST by straight across the top of the bust and widest part of back. This is the most important measurement of the dress.

5. Measure WAIST by placing the tape measure 1-2 inches above the navel.

6. Measure HIPS by placing the largest part of hips, which is usually about 8 inches below the waistline.

Now compare the measurements to the dress you’d like to buy. When in doubt go with the chest size, which makes the dress most comfortable and the zipper close easily. Happy shopping!

Handcrafted sweatshirt pullovers

Clothing February 28th, 2008

When I first started making my sweatshirts, I was a bit skeptical, thinking someone would leave me negative feedback because of a dislike. I have been very fortunate with wonderful customers, they keep coming back; must be I’m doing something right. If I am held up on getting a sweatshirt finished because of my shipment being delayed, I always make it right with my customers, I always add “a little something” in their package. I welcome comments/criticism to improve my crafting. If there is a specific pattern that you would like on your sweatshirt pullover/cardigan, explain to me what you’d like & I will try my best to accomodate you, afterall, that’s what keeps me going.

Listing womens jeans

Clothing February 28th, 2008

Hello, when listing womens jeans, (and to avoid having to answer questions repeatedly), here are a few things buyers want to know about the jeans.

Size, style, waist, (this will usually be different from the tag size, as most jeans are lowrise, and therefore the so called waist is more like top of hips), rise (measurement from the crotch seam to the waistband), fabric content, inseam length, wash color, condition, original price, and flaws or alterations that have been made, including hemming.

Take pictures of the actual jeans you are selling. Cropped photo’s look nice, but may not be EXACTLY the same as the jeans you are selling. Just a slight difference in any aspect of the jeans may not seem significant to you, but could to a buyer.

Also, misses sizes are even numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, while juniors are odd numbered 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13.

How to NOT end up with nothing on THE wedding day!!

Clothing February 28th, 2008

Dear future bride/Groom,

CONGRATULATIONS! You are about to start a brand new chapter of your life together! However as we all know, getting married is NOT one of the simplest things on our lives. There are too many tasks need to be prepared, appointment need to be made, and THE DRESS need to be ordered!!!

The last thing we want to happen is realizing that the dress we have ordered is NOT AVAILABLE anymore because the seller/website is either not legit or the dress is not from the authentic designers.

So the question is how can we protect ourselves from this happening. How to succesfully buy a product online or on eBay knowing that the products we ordered are authentic and correct? Before we go ahead and just order from any seller who has the lowest price, use the checklist below to safeguard yourself.

  1. How to tell if the seller/website is legit?

    • Does it show the real company name?

      • If not, ask for it. All legitimate companies who carry designers’ brand have their zipcode and business name registered under the designer’s website. For example, if you visit Alfred Angelo website, and input zip code 10002, you will see ‘Just Pretty Bridal Inc.’ in it. ***STAY AWAY FROM ONES WHO’S HIDING ITS REAL IDENTITY***

    • Does it have a retailer brick and mortal store?

      • 99% of the bridal designer requires a brick and mortal (physical) store presence in order to carry their dresses.

  2. Once we scaled down to the legit companies, how to best choose them?

    • Customer Service

      • Send them few emails with questions and see how fast, accurate, courteous the responses are. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, most of the companies are more than happy to assist to earn your business.

    • Feedbacks

      • Take a detailed examination of their history such as number of years in business.

      • Were most of the feedbacks good vs bad? Now vs then?

      • How many feedbacks total.

    • Return Policies or Guarantees?

      • Any return policy if the product is defective or doesn’t fit?

      • Any guarantees in case anything goes wrong with the orders?

  3. And other important things to consider:

    • Make sure it accepts either PayPal and/or credit card. They are your best friends when it comes to protecting you from fraud transactions.

    • Take your time in selecting products, don’t ever being pushed into buying which can lead to wrong decisions.

    • Always allow at least 3-4 months ahead of time for ordering the dress. This way you will have enough time to find another one in case the first one doesn’t work out.

    • Get a correct measurement and fitting before ordering online so there won’t be any surprise when the dress arrives.

    • If buying multiple items from the same seller or website, consider bargain with them for the best prices. Most vendors will be more than happy to offer it to you for volume business.

    • Don’t always look for the lowest price. Look at the whole package in determining who to buy it from.

    • “IF IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THEN IT MUST BE ‘FAKE’”

I hope this guide will help you protecting yourself from the potential pitfull of buying dresses/shoes and everything else online. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any question. Oh yea, here is one examples of what happens when dealing with a ‘bad seller’.

I have a Surrey Original purse. It is made of seal and was given to me by an elderly woman who was having a house sale. Everything is original on it, nothing has been replaced and in very, very good condition. Only the inside mirror is a little old. It includes a coin purse inside. Does anyone know what the value may be? If interested, I will upload a picture of it.

1952 Guide to Style for Full Hipped Figures

Clothing February 28th, 2008

Excerpted from Modern Home Sewing by Drucella Lowrie and Sylvia Mager printed in 1952, this guide is intended to be a period style guide for those wearers of 1950s vintage clothing.

Dressing to Suit Your Figure Type

There is no “secret” to dressing well. If you will analyze your figure carefully, you will learn to select pattern lines that emphasize your good points — and that minimize your bad ones.

Women who have ideal or “average” figures can wear almost any line or style. But most of us are not that fortunate. You will probably find that you fall into one of the four basic figure classifications — or that you have one or more of the minor figure problems studied below. You may also find that you do not come under just one figure type of have just one problem. For example, you could be short with a short neck and full bust. You would have to look under the suggestions for the short figure and the full bust figure and under the suggestions for the short neck. On the other hand, you may be tall with a flat chest and wide shoulders. You would then look under the suggestions for the tall figure and under the suggestions for the flat chest and wide shoulders.

If you will combine the lines and style features suggested for your figure type with those suggested for your minor figure problems, you will find the styles that are flattering and right for you.

Basic Principles for the Four Figure Types

ARE YOU LARGER OVER THE HIPS? This is your figure type if your hips measure 12 or more inches larger than your waist. You should wear lines that draw attention to the upper part of your figure. Be careful to wear skirts that are not too tight fitting as they will emphasize your hips.

ALL FULL-HIPPED FIGURES

1. Contrasting yokes and sleeves draw the eye away from hips. 2. Keep skirt flared even in “straight skirt” seasons. 3. Wear boxy straight or tuxedo front coats.

AVERAGE WITH FULL HIPS FIGURE

1. Tapered lines from waist to shoulder on dresses and suits are good. 2. Contrasting darker skirts make hips appear slimmer. Try dresses with front fullness, plain back.

PLUMP WITH FULL HIPS FIGURE

1. Wear interesting shoulder details. 2. Fly front or buttoned front dresses are slimming. 3. Contrasting vestees or blouses to draw attention to upper part of figure are flattering.
