My shafts are uniflex steels

Golf Clubs, Industrial May 22nd, 2008

I posted a review for these clubs under “single club” because I was searching for an ‘A’ wedge. Since most reviews here seem to be for ebay problems, I figured I’d include my full review for the Fusion iron set I bought a while back. I got the used clubs (BTW, genuine Callaways) at a very good price from a very good local golf company but have seen them at close to this price at auction on ebay.

I look for technology that can help improve my iron game regardless of cosmetics or workability.

I look for clubs that do what they 1) are suppose to do as advertised, 2) are a good value and 3) may have been overlooked in the overwhelming glare of the Big Company’s advertising.

The Callway Fusion Irons fit the first parameter and fit it better than any iron I have ever used.

Parameter 2? If you buy ‘em retail, they just simply cost way too much…and in my opinion, the cost has less to do with R&D, production and materials than with the high cost of marketing. The cost would be a dealbreaker if not for used club sales and ebay. I got my 3-PW set, practically mint, for $475 — essentially what you’d pay for a relatively good set of OTCTMT (Other-Than-Callaway/TaylorMade/Titleist) irons.

Parameter 3 didn’t figure in either…obviously, Callaway products cannot be considered overlooked.

I have been playing Wilson Deep Red II distance Irons. I would have happily still be playing them because they are simply the best Overlooked/Under marketed/Underpriced clubs ever made. My plan was to just keep playing them unless something came along that was a LOT better. I am a mid-handicapper (9.0 — 12.0 depending on how much I practice and how the short game’s going) and the Wilson’ simply allowed me to hit the ball with long, mid, and short irons straight and long — not bad qualities in an iron!. What they don’t do is spin the ball much or provide a lot of feel for touch shots. The Wilson’s have some distance gaps, but they are manageable. Also, the large head size can make some
lies a bit tough.

The Fusion irons, on the other hand, have none of the drawbacks. Cosmetically, they are nice albeit high-tech looking. At address they are more traditional looking with a topline much thinner than you may expect from Cally.

Thry’re accurate, as long as the Wilsons (7 iron= 160) and incredibly forgiving without sacrificing feel. There is adequate feedback to tell exactly where on the face the ball was struck, but mis-hits are handled nicely. There is very little loss of distance or line. You can hit them high, low, knock ‘em down and lean on them. Play a fade or draw, but don’t expect a lot of cut or hookage.

The long irons are easier to hit than the Wilsons — and that says a lot. NO club I’ve ever played had easier to hit long irons. The feel, distance and control are consistant throughout the set.

My shafts are uniflex steels, and your milage may vary — I’ve hit Fusions with S-300 shafts and they were a bit longer, but also a bit heavier.

The short irons and wedge are real confidence boosters, and it’s easy to pick a target and just go.

I’ve played (in addition to the Wilsons) Ping ISI and I-3+ Blades, Mizuno MP-32’s and have experienced various TaylorMade RAC configurations and must say that, for my game, the Fusions are by far the best fit.

the 460 Adam’s Redline RPM Titanium and the 410 & 460 Nike Ignite drivers

Industrial, my chicago May 20th, 2008

There’s only 2 things wrong with this driver. One, Cleveland quit making it. Two, Cleveland remains a ’sleeper’ company because they don’t pay the big bucks to guys like Tiger, Phil and Ernie to promote their equipment. But, when it comes to playing a first class driver that will perform as well as ANY that are out there (and better than 99% of them), it’s simply amazing that it’s possible to buy a club that performs this well for so little money. I realize that shaft’s make most of the difference in any club. I also realize that virtually ALL of the drivers built in the last 2-3 years manage to ‘crowd’ the USGA limits for ‘hotness’. So, I’ve gotten accustomed to NOT being ‘wowed’ when I demo the ‘newest’ toy on the market. However, after a few balls with a Regular Flex 10 degree Comp, I was amazed at it’s feel, balance, weight and performance. Normally, I don’t like Regular flex drivers, but for some reason, this one felt really solid and not too ‘whippy’ - unlike the gold Fujikura shaft that came out on the original Launcher.
Bottom line, for the money, this driver, the 460 Adam’s Redline RPM Titanium and the 410 & 460 Nike Ignite drivers represent the best values on the market for players with medium club head speeds - which describes probably 75% of all golfers.

FINDING TREASURE IN THE ‘OTHER’ CATAGORY

Industrial, Loans, Massager, my chicago, others May 18th, 2008

It is unreal just how many times I have found a great treasure or a fantastic bargain in the often bypassed catagory known as “other”.

Sometimes people simply do not know what final catagory to list their items in and I have ended up with a pretty nice Tonka for a great price because other ebayers may not think to look there.

So, no matter what you are looking for, take a little extra time to peruse this catagory. You just never know!

VW Passat W8 4 Motion Expensive but Worth It

Industrial March 20th, 2008

Released at a time when VW was betting the farm on a reach upscale, and with good reason since every offering from Mercedes (for whom they were gunning) looked like a Chrysler S weren’t cheap. But after having bought and driven at least 10 of them, I think they should have been priced higher. I know, I know that would out price the A6 2.7T or 4.2. But in many ways the W8 is the more dynamic car, without all of the Audi overhead. Plus you could get a V8 with a manual transmission. Not from Audi, at least not in those years, so in this way the W8 was gunning more for the 540i. Or maybe it just slipped between the mark and sort of petered out, without the fanfare it deserved. OK, so why buy one. A terrific W8 4.0 liter engine, which is without a doubt the best ’smaller’ displacement 8 I have ever driven. Extremely dynamic, gobs of torque, and mated to the 5 speed transmission it’s perfect. Add to it all wheel drive borrowed from Audi, a unique interior, and features including Xenons, and you’ve got everything you need. Plus, and I think this is a big plus, it’s the right size. You’ve got an all wheel drive well balance car, that will outrun just about anything you’d meet at a stoplight. Why, lower weight, high torque, and excellent 4wd. Sorry Audi, VW won this one, but no one ever heard. I think it’s too bad they discontinued the program, but now we get to buy them right. Figure 15-20k depending on miles, year, and 6 speed. Personally, I like the wagon best of all, it has a lower exhaust note due to slightly longer pipes.

GLOW PLUG

Industrial March 20th, 2008

All Glow plugs have the same purpose. The difference is quality! There are single coil and dual coil plugs. Single coil plugs will burn out if constant power is applied, while dual coil plugs will regulate their temperature and not burn out.

WAP dual coil design regulates the plug’s temperature to avoid catastrophic failures. The dual coil design provides for faster start, less smoke at start-up, and longer life.

Glow plugs will wear out at some point in time. Below are a few signd of wear. When a glow plug wear out, it is important that ALL plugs are replaced. Over-voltage is the most common failure of a glow plug. To ensure a longer life span, you should use WAP dual coil glow plugs (see my store).

All of WAP glow plugs are tested twice before they leave the facility resulting in a defect rate of only .00007% of 7 pieces per MILLION!

Common Signs Of Failure

Hard Start Cold -

No Start Cold -

White Smoke -

Solution: Clean your controller from any contamination it might have. A Q-tip does wonders. Relace your glow plugs and/or relay controller.

ATV scam Polaris Ranger

Industrial March 20th, 2008

I too was intrigued by the pricefor a Polaris ranger $2900. When the item was removed from and then seller contacted me directly I got suspicious. He said he was in Ohio, I said good I am Pennsylvania I will come look at it and bring the cash. He said it was in storage and he could not get at it with such a short notice. I asked him if he was aware of the scam regarding this vehicle and he never responded. anything selling for 50% of the actual value is a scam!
